Earlier, Pat Cummins took the first hat-trick of the T20 World Cup 2024 and demolished Bangladesh's batting line-up. Bangladesh had a bad start after being invited to bat first. Wickets started falling from the first over itself. The half-century partnership between captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto (41) and Liton Das made it seem that Bangladesh was making a comeback in the match, but Maxwell and Adam Zampa pushed Bangladesh on the backfoot by taking two consecutive wickets. In the end, Tauheed Hridaya tried to make a comeback by scoring 40 runs, but the rest of the work was done by Pat Cummins. Tauheed completed the hat-trick by taking two consecutive wickets in the 18th over and then on the first ball of the 20th over. Bangladesh scored 140 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.
