Why was the portal closed?
The passport department said that the portal will remain closed for five days due to technical maintenance. Due to which no work related to passport will be done. Apart from the passport service center, regional passport offices will also remain closed. Also, the police verification of the applicants and the work of the Ministry of External Affairs will also be affected. An official of the passport department said that applicants who have booked online appointments during this period can reschedule their appointment for another date.
How many types of passports are there in India?
- There are three types of passports in India
- Bluecover Passport: This is a normal passport. It can be used by any citizen of the country.
- Maroon cover passport: This is a diplomatic passport. This passport can be used by official diplomats of the Government of India. These passports are issued to members holding government positions.
- Greycover Passport: This is an official passport. It is given to government employees working abroad.
