Passport application service closed: There is important news for people who are going to get a new passport. Now, appointments will not be available for getting a passport for 5 days. The passport department portal will remain closed across the country from 8 pm on August 29 to the morning of September 2.

If you have taken an appointment between 30 August and 2 September after applying earlier, then it will have to be rescheduled for some other date. In such a situation, applicants not only from Delhi but from the whole country may have to face problems. People will not be able to make new applications during this period.

The passport department has said that the portal will not be operational for five days due to technical reasons. This will affect not only the passport service centers but also the work at the regional passport offices, police verification of applicants and the Ministry of External Affairs. The passport department had sent information to applicants well in advance about taking online appointments for passport.

Applicants will be impressed

Due to the closure of the passport department portal, applicants from Delhi and other states may also face problems. The passport department official said that applicants who had taken online appointments during this period will now be able to reschedule it for some other date. They will not need to take a new appointment. However, during this time people will not be able to apply for a new appointment.

How many types of passports are there in India?

There are three types of Indian passports – Blue Cover Passport, Maroon Cover Passport and Grey Cover Passport.

Blue Cover Passport:- Ordinary passport (with dark blue cover) – can be issued to any Indian citizen.

Maroon Cover Passport: – Diplomatic Passport (with maroon cover) – Issued to diplomats/officials authorised by the Government of India.

Grey Cover Passport:- Official Passport (with dark grey cover) – Issued to designated Government servants posted abroad or any other person specifically authorised by the Government on official assignment.
