Passengers please note! If you book a friend's ticket using IRCTC account, will you be jailed?

IRCTC : Millions of people travel by Indian Railways every day, and most of these train tickets today are booked online through the IRCTC website, mobile app or third party sites. But can you book someone else's train ticket from your IRCTC account?

Recently such news was going viral on social media, in which it was claimed that if you book someone else's train ticket from your personal account, then you can even be jailed. But is this really true?

These important rules related to train ticket booking

Sharing a note, the Railways has said that ticket booking from the IRCTC site is as per the guidelines of the Railway Board. According to these rules, anyone can book tickets for friends, family or relatives from their personal user ID. In such a situation, the news going on social media that if you book train tickets for your friends, you can be jailed is completely baseless and false.

If a user has linked his IRCTC account with Aadhaar, he can book 24 tickets per month, whereas through Aadhaar linked accounts, you can book 12 tickets per month.

What do the railway rules say?

The railways have also clarified that rail tickets booked from a person's personal account cannot be sold commercially. As per Section 143 of the Railways Act, 1989, tickets booked from personal accounts cannot be sold, which also carries strict punishment.
