Mumbai: Police arrested a 51-year-old tourist from Tamil Nadu for smoking cigarette in the toilet of Muscat-Mumbai flight.
The incident happened on Vistara's UK 234 flight. Balakrishna Rajayan, a resident of Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, was flying from Muscat to Mumbai on Monday night when he went to the rear toilet inside the plane. He smoked a cigarette in the toilet.
The pilot of the flight came to know about the incident with the help of smoke detector. The pilot immediately informed the crew members about the incident. After this, when the toilet was inspected, cigarette butts were found in the wash basin. The plane landed at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday morning. Police said the crew members informed the security supervisor at the airport about the unruly behavior of passenger Balkrishna.
After this the security officer took the accused tourist to his office and interrogated him thoroughly. Meanwhile, Balkrishna confessed to the crime of smoking in the plane. He used a match to light the cigarette. He also handed over this matchbox to the security agency. The accused was later taken to Sahar police station where a case was registered based on the complaint of the security supervisor.
