Outgoing US President Joe Biden has recently given a big statement regarding the past elections. He claimed that if he had stood against Donald Trump in the general elections, he could have defeated him. However, prioritizing the unity of the Democratic Party, he decided to withdraw his candidacy mid-election. When Biden was asked at a press conference held at the White House on Friday whether he regretted his decision not to contest the election, or whether he gave Trump an easy chance to become president, Biden clearly said, “I It doesn’t seem so. I was confident that I could defeat Trump. Kamala Harris could also defeat him.”

Party unity given priority

Biden also said that the unity of the Democratic Party was paramount to him. He said, “When there were doubts about my leadership within the party, I felt that it was necessary to unite the party. I was confident that I could win the election, but gave priority to party unity.”

82-year-old Biden’s performance during the presidential candidates’ debate in Atlanta in June was mediocre, after which many party members advised him to withdraw from the presidential race. Ultimately Biden withdrew his name from the Democratic Party’s presidential candidacy. Vice President Kamala Harris was made the candidate in her place, but she lost to Donald Trump.

Expressed confidence in Kamala Harris

Biden expressed confidence in the abilities of Kamala Harris and said that she is capable of contesting for the post of President in the future. He said, “This is a decision which they will have to consider themselves. But I think she is fully prepared and can contest elections again after four years.”

Biden’s statement on future plans

When asked whether he would remain active after leaving the presidency or follow the Bush model and step away from public life, Biden said with a smile, “I will neither disappear from sight nor from hearts.” He also indicated that he would continue to play an active role in politics and social issues.

Donald Trump’s journey to becoming President

Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of America on January 20. Republican Party leader Trump has been the President of America before also. Compared to Biden, Trump’s strong support base and effective campaign strategy was successful in bringing him back to the presidency.

This decision of Joe Biden and his statements remain a topic of discussion in political circles. It will be interesting to see how Kamala Harris and Biden contribute to the strategy of the Democratic Party in the coming years.
