Parties cannot harass people by calling for votes in elections

Are you troubled by dirty calls asking for votes, then there is good news for you. The current general elections in the country may be the last election in which political parties obtain your phone numbers from third party agencies to prepare pitches for their candidates and harass you with such calls. That means now you can easily get rid of such calls. Because, as soon as the new government comes to power in June, you will get legal protection against such calls. Currently the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act is in force but due to lack of supporting regulations this Act has not been implemented.

However, it is also important to clarify here that people may have to face such harassing phone calls till the next few assembly elections, but not after that. There will be a provision under the law that if the rules under the Act are violated, a lump sum fine of up to Rs 250 crore will have to be paid and legal action will also be taken against the manufacturing company. Data available with political parties.
