These committees work on the instructions of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and submit their reports to the Parliament or the Speaker. These committees are of two types. Standing Committees and Ad-hoc Committees. The tenure of standing committees is one year and their work continues continuously. Financial committees, departmental committees and some other types of committees are standing committees. Ad-hoc committees are formed for some special cases. When their work ends, these committees also cease to exist.
How many types of standing committees are there?
Generally there are three types of standing committees. It includes financial committees, departmental committees and other types of standing committees. There are three committees in finance committees. First – Estimates Committee, second – Public Accounts Committee and third – Committee on Government Undertakings. It has 22 to 30 members. The Estimates Committee consists only of members of the Lok Sabha.

Whereas, the Committees on Public Accounts and Public Undertakings consist of 15 members of the Lok Sabha and 7 members of the Rajya Sabha. The number of committees related to departments is 24. It includes all the ministries and departments of the central government. Each committee has 31 members. It has 21 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha members. It includes committees of departments like Home, Industry, Agriculture, Defence, External Affairs, Railways, Urban Development, Rural Development.
