Paris Paralympics: Nishad Kumar wins silver medal in men's high jump T-47 | News India

Paris, September 2 (HS). Nishad Kumar won the seventh medal for India at the Paris 2024 Paralympics by finishing second in the men's high jump T47 final late on Sunday night.

Nishad cleared 2.04m with ease but failed at 2.08m, as the 24-year-old Indian, competing in his first Paralympic Games, won the silver with a new Asian record of 2.06m while Russia's Georgy Margiev took the bronze.

USA's Roderick Townsend won the gold medal with a jump of 2.12m in his first attempt. Townsend also won Paralympic gold in 2021. Also at the 2022 Asian Para Games, he won gold in the men's high jump T47 in Hangzhou, China.

Meanwhile, India has secured a total of seven medals with one gold, two silver and three bronze at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. On Sunday, Indian parasprinter Preeti Pal won the bronze medal in the 200m T-35 with a timing of 30.01 seconds. With this medal, Preeti created history as she became the first Indian female athlete to win 2 medals in a track and field event at the Paralympics or Olympics.

Earlier, Preeti finished third and won the bronze medal in the T35 100m race, clocking 14.21 seconds, which is also her personal best.
