Following the incident, the police arrested the girl's parents on charges of murder and destruction of evidence and conducted further investigation, although the couple did not provide any explanation as to why they killed the girl. After finding several discrepancies in the post-mortem report and the statements of Labiba's parents, the police concluded that the girl was murdered by her parents Zahid and Noorani.
The police registered a case under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing destruction of evidence) and presented both of them in the court and they were sent to police custody till April 15.
