Nikhil Gupta: Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta, who plotted the murder of pro-Khalistan Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, was presented in a US court on Monday. Meanwhile, Nikhil acquitted himself of the charge of conspiracy to murder. The court has ordered him to be kept in custody till June 28.
Nikhil Gupta was brought to America
Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta (52) was brought to the US from the Czech Republic on Friday. He was arrested in the Czech Republic last year at the request of the US government. Nikhil Gupta's lawyer said, 'His client was presented in a federal court in New York on Monday, where he (client) pleaded not guilty. This issue is very complicated for both the countries. But it is also important, so we want to avoid any kind of rush.' Nikhil Gupta told the court that he has been falsely accused.
Ordered to be remanded till June 28
Earlier, a court in the Czech Republic had rejected Nikhil Gupta's extradition request to the US. Now the New York court has ordered Nikhil Gupta to be kept in custody till the hearing on June 28. His lawyer did not apply for bail.
He was arrested on June 30
Following US pressure, the Czech Republic police arrested Nikhil Gupta on June 30 last year. Nikhil is accused of being involved in a conspiracy to murder Gurpatwant Pannu, a Khalistani terrorist active in the US. Now action has been initiated in the Pannu murder case.
