New Delhi: India reacted strongly to the Washington Post report alleging India's involvement in the assassination attempt on Gurupatwat Singh Pannu, saying the allegations are completely baseless and irrational without obtaining complete information. Regarding those efforts in America, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the investigation of the incident is going on and the Government of India has also appointed a high level committee for this. We also share the US government's concern for the safety of civilians.
India is accused of attempting to assassinate Pannu because a sharp shooter named Vikram Yadav was stopped by India's international intelligence organization – Research and Analysis Wing – RAW. He appointed RAW chief Samant Goyal for this work but Gurpat Singh Pannu escaped. To which India has also expressed strong opposition.
In response to questions about the sequence of events and the Washington Post's reports, White House Press Secretary Karen Jean Pirie told reporters that an investigation is ongoing and that the Justice Department is conducting a criminal investigation.
He said that India is an important strategic partner of America. India and America are working together on an ambitious agenda. And we are cooperating in various fields. In response to a question about the attempt to murder Pannu, Pieri said, “This is a very serious matter.” The Government of India has said that it is ready to cooperate fully in the investigation, it takes the matter seriously and is also ready to cooperate in the investigation.
