Chandigarh: Panchayat elections will be held in Punjab between 14 and 20 October. The Rural Development and Panchayat Department has approved this by issuing a notification. Soon the State Election Commission will release the complete schedule of the elections. It is believed that these elections will be held between 14 October and 20 October. It has been said in the notification that the elections should be completed by 20 October.
Let us tell you that the Panchayat elections in Punjab are pending for a long time and many Panchayats have also knocked the door of the High Court to conduct these elections. Recently, in one such case, the High Court had also asked the reason for the delay in the elections, due to which the government had to face a lot of embarrassment. Due to this, the process of conducting elections has been expedited.
Rice harvesting will be in full swing
However, these days is the paddy season and when the dates of the panchayats will be decided, paddy harvesting will be in full swing and along with it the farmers will have to go to the markets to sell the paddy.
In the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session that ran from 2 to 4 September, the government also passed an important bill regarding changes in the Panchayat elections, which said that no party will be able to contest elections on its own election symbol. This has been done due to increasing political hatred and factionalism in the Panchayats.
Apart from this, changes have also been made in the roster system of reservation in panchayats. Now reserved panchayats will be selected on the basis of blocks. Whereas earlier this decision was taken on the basis of panchayats.
