Israel-Hamas war: Five Palestinian citizens living in Gaza, the West Bank and the US have sued the US for supporting the Israeli army. They allege that America has committed genocide. The case on Tuesday (November 17) accuses the State Department of failing to enforce US federal law. The case states that gross human rights violations have been taking place in Israel since the Gaza war began on October 7, 2023.

What is the whole incident?

Hamas launched a major terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, killing more than 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. According to reports, about 100 of them are still imprisoned in Gaza. The report also filed said that a Palestinian teacher has been forcibly transferred seven times since the start of the war and 20 members of his family have been killed in Israeli attacks.

America should stop military aid to Israel

In a statement related to the case, the teacher said, ‘My pain will subside if the US stops supporting the Israeli army, which is a gross violator of human rights. The case centers around the Leahy Act. This is a federal regulation that prevents the US government from funding foreign military units when it has concrete information that they are engaged in gross human rights abuses.’

America provides financial assistance every year

The US State Department said in a fact sheet defining the law that these violations include torture, murder, enforced disappearance and rape. However, according to international reports, the US provides at least US$3.8 billion in military aid to Israel every year. Meanwhile, researchers at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, recently estimated that the Biden administration has given Israel an additional $17.9 billion since the beginning of the Gaza war.
