Jammu, 8th: Preparations for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are going on in full swing. At such a time, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has called upon the people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) to merge with India. He told the residents of POK that we consider you our own while Pakistan considers you foreigners. Rajnath Singh spoke on the POK issue a day after his army chief General Asim Munir admitted the direct involvement of Pakistani soldiers in the Kargil war and the death of a large number of soldiers in the war. Along with this, he also raised the issue of Article 370, Hurriyat and Afzal.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh did not stop at offering the people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to join India. He attacked Pakistan fiercely, mentioning Pakistan's black tax. Along with this, he also highlighted India's policy and intentions regarding PoK and reiterated that PoK is an integral part of India.
He said that the Additional Solicitor General of the neighbouring country has recently filed an affidavit in the Parliament saying that POK is a foreign land. We will do so much development in the Jammu and Kashmir valley that the people of POK will see it and say that we do not want to live in Pakistan, we will go to India. By offering the people of POK to join India, Rajnath Singh has strengthened the vote bank for BJP in the Kashmir Valley. There are many people in the Kashmir Valley who sympathize with the people of POK. They consider POK to be a part of Kashmir. Along with this, Rajnath also advised Pakistan to improve relations with India.
The Defence Minister said that if Pakistan stops terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, India is ready for talks with it. Questioning which country would not want to improve relations with its neighbour, he said, we know the fact that you can change your friend but not your neighbour. Pakistan should also understand this and to improve relations with India, it should first stop terrorism. 85 percent of the people who fell prey to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir were Muslims. Terrorist attacks were common in Kashmir. More Muslims were killed in these attacks than Hindus.
Along with advising the people of Pakistan and PoK, Rajnath Singh also criticized the National Conference, PDP and Congress. Referring to the BJP-PDP alliance, he said, “During the Mehbooba-led government, we withdrew cases against minors and innocent people, but the problem was that PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti was sympathetic to the separatists.” The people of Jammu and Kashmir are independent citizens of India and have the right to peace and prosperity. But for Mehbooba Mufti, the separatists were more important.
Criticising former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah, Rajnath said that Omar Abdullah says that Afzal Guru should not have been hanged. I ask whether Afzal Guru should be garlanded? He also raised the issue of Article 370 and Hurriyat.
