ICC Champions Trophy: If the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) withdraws its name from the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in the near future, then Pakistan may suffer a huge loss in revenue. And it can be separated from international cricket. A senior International Cricket Council (ICC) official said, it will not be easy for the PCB to pull out of the tournament if the ICC and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refuse to accept the hybrid model.
So Pakistan will not get its share of earnings!
The official said, ‘Pakistan has only signed with the ICC to host the tournament, like all other participating countries, it has also signed the Members’ Mandatory Participation Agreement (MPA) with the ICC. Only after signing an MPA to participate in ICC competitions does a member country become entitled to a share of the earnings from ICC competitions.
ICC has signed with the broadcaster
Regarding ICC, the official further said, ‘The most important thing is that ICC has signed an agreement with the broadcaster for all the matches. In which he has assured that all its member countries will participate in ICC matches including the Champions Trophy. Last week the ICC managed to get consent to organize the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model. According to this, India will play its match in Dubai. And this arrangement will continue in ICC matches till 2027. However, no official announcement has been made in this regard yet.
ICC can file a case against Pakistan
If this agreement goes through, it will mean that Pakistan will not be obliged to tour India for ICC competitions until 2027. The official said that if Pakistan withdraws from the Champions Trophy. Then the ICC and the other 16 member countries of the ICC Executive Board can also file a case against him. And broadcasters can also adopt this route. Because Pakistan’s exit will cause loss to all stakeholders. Apart from this, the PCB did not get strong support from other members of the executive board.
