Pakistan shaken by India’s tough stand on Indus Water Treaty, pleadingly said – ‘If water is stopped, our 24 crore people will die’

Pakistan has lost sleep after the Indian government indefinitely postponed the ‘Indus Waters Treaty’ after the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam. After this tough and historic decision of India, the water crisis in Pakistan has started deepening and due to not getting any kind of support from different international forums of the world, now Pakistan’s attitude has become completely lax. The situation is such that now Pakistan has been forced to join hands with India and is requesting help from the global community.

Pakistan Government’s Information Minister Atahullah Tarar issued a statement on Wednesday saying that this unilateral decision of India is having a direct and fatal impact on the common people of his country. Appealing to the international community to immediately intervene in this matter, he said in a warning tone that if this does not happen, the people of his country will die due to lack of water.

According to the report published in Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’, Minister Atahullah Tarar said during the press conference that the blocking of water by India is a direct attack on their basic rights. “We cannot allow India to use water as a weapon because it is a fundamental and constitutional right of Pakistan’s 24 crore citizens,” he said.

Tarar also argued that if a country unilaterally suspends an international water treaty, it could have a negative impact on other countries in the world who use shared waters under mutual frameworks. He said that Pakistan will continue dialogue on international forums to protect its water interests.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government is now citing international treaties to hide its failures. Referring to the speech given by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Tarar said international water resources areas are the lifeline of their people. He roared and said that if this right of Pakistan is taken away, its people will die and this serious situation will be considered as an ‘Act of War’.

However, the Indian government has given clear reasons behind this step and made it clear that terrorism and talks cannot go together. India has taken a strict decision to put a stop to the Indus Water Treaty in view of the continuous cross-border sponsored terrorism, so that there is no compromise with the country’s security. On the other hand, despite being trapped in the quagmire of terrorism, Pakistan is unsuccessfully trying to prove itself a victim in front of the international community, but the world has now understood its tactics well.
