Amid the ongoing controversy over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that Pakistan will host the ICC event in 2028. The announcement comes as a result of the financial losses suffered by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after India refused to tour for the Champions Trophy.

During the PCB Governing Board meeting chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, the ICC has assured Pakistan of compensation as compensation for the right to host the women’s tournament in 2028, which will likely be played in the T20 format.

PCB signed agreement with BCCI

According to reports, there was a possibility of this happening earlier, but now it has been confirmed. Apart from this, Champions Trophy is also being discussed, but the news is that a consensus has been reached between PCB and BCCI on this issue. Pakistan’s refusal to tour India for the Champions Trophy has increased the financial pressure, due to which the PCB has not accepted the ICC’s proposed compensation.

Many tournaments will be organized in India in the next three years

Pakistan introduced a model under which no country will send its team to any other country for the next ICC events in the next three years. India is going to host two big ICC tournaments in these three years. These include the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025 and the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026. Apart from this, India will also host the Asia Cup in 2025.

India-Pakistan match will be held in Colombo

Keeping all these things in mind, Indian fans may miss India-Pakistan matches at home till 2028. The Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and Pakistan is likely to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The highlight of the meeting was the formal decision by the ICC to award hosting rights to Pakistan for the women’s tournament in 2028. Pakistan has not been able to host ICC tournaments on home soil for many years due to political and security challenges.
