Panniwala Fatta (Sri Muktsar Sahib): Our country celebrates Independence Day on 15th August, for them it is not a day of freedom but a day of destruction.

95-year-old Bapu Gulzar Singh of village Mohlan in Sri Muktsar Sahib district said that he is living a very good life in village Noorpur in Pakistan. At that time he was 18 years old and he was born in Chak No. 202 Rakh Branch but at a young age his father sold the land and came to Noorpur Chak No. 122 Nehar Chand Baran District Lyallpur and took the land. Bapu told that Lyallpur city is adjacent to Noorpur. He passed matriculation from Dhanpat Malaria School. In Noorpur seven to eight houses belonged to Muslims and the rest belonged to Jats, who themselves belonged to the Kamboj community. They started discriminating against us by saying that it belongs only to the Kamboj community and told the blacksmiths that if they do not do their work they will leave from here.

Then we brought a blacksmith Ibrahim to the village. He was very skilled and did the work very well. Ibrahim's mother died when we lived there, so it took my mother seven years to cook roti. When we started coming, we handed over everything to Ibrahim, whatever money or gold we had, we gave it to Ibrahim. Ibrahim started crying loudly that today my mother died. We buried some things by digging a pit in the ground and put sacks over them so that if they come again we can take them out from here, but then we could not go. He told that his uncle was a captain in the army and had come to the village on leave and Pakistani police were chasing him to kill him.

Uncle said that we cannot stay here anymore, we should leave from here, he put uncle on a horse and left from Lyallpur and uncle brought a military truck from there and put us in the truck, we had only five beds in the truck and the rest of the luggage was left there. We left the jail route and brought the truck from another route. On the way, our uncle said that I should fill the truck with fuel, so we had to kill Muslims. We went towards the petrol pump, seeing the army uncle ahead, he stepped back and we quickly got into the truck. From there we came to Amritsar.

Guru's Jandiale Muslims took an oath that they would burn five villages and then eat the meat of the cows. They slaughtered the cows and I saw with my own eyes dogs eating the human cage, the meat had already been eaten by the dogs but the bones were being gnawed by the dogs. There were two big piles of bones. When we left, Muslims in Chak No. 5 and Chak No. 6 in Pakistan started setting fire and burnt both the villages completely.

Bapu said that his best friends were Ibrahim and Sher Mohammad. Sher Mohammad had sent a letter once but never after that. Bapu said that he misses the village a lot. Once I see the village, even if you send me alone, I will find my village and home. He also told that we were two brothers and lived very happily. While coming, we unchained the bulls and buffaloes.

The land had to be sold at Rs 600 per kilo

Bapu told that he got garden land in Jandiala Guru, but some people put a writ that our land is garden land in Pakistan, so we should be given garden land. Then Jandiala Guru gave us some land and some Majitha which was very poor and coloured and all the land was given to one village at once. Our land did not get water and neither could we install any well etc., then we sold that land at the rate of Rs 600 per kilo. When Bapu was asked where did you stay in Jandiala Guru, Bapu told that our relative was Jandiala Guru. Bapu also told that two years after coming from Pakistan, he got married in Jandiala Guru. His brother-in-law was allotted land in village Mohals. He told us that you should come here, then we came to Mohals and we bought 35 kilos of land at the rate of Rs 1300 per kilo. Bapu told that Balayanwali, Rari, Talavan, 20 Chak villages were near our village Noorpur.
