An excellent opportunity has emerged for the youth who want to make a career in the technical field in government departments. National Informatics Center (NIC) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has announced the Winter Internship Program 2026. Under this prestigious program, meritorious students from selected technical institutes of the country will be given the opportunity to work with the digital projects of the Central Government. The most special thing about this internship is that the students participating in it will also be provided a stipend every month in the form of financial assistance. For the youth pursuing technical education, this experience can prove to be a milestone in their future career.
Key Highlights and Details of NIC Winter Internship 2026
The main objective of this internship scheme, launched under the Digital India Initiative of the Government of India, is to expose the youth to modern IT infrastructure and actual government projects. A total of 50 seats have been earmarked for this winter batch, on which the eligible candidates will be selected. This entire internship will be conducted in offline mode at NIC Headquarters, New Delhi. Selected candidates will get the opportunity to work under the guidance of top technical experts of the country, which will drastically improve their practical skills.
Which students can apply and what is the eligibility
Some special educational qualifications have been fixed by the Ministry to apply for this internship. Students pursuing B.E or B.Tech who are in their third year are eligible for this. Apart from this, first year students of ME, M.Tech or MSc (Computer Science/IT) and second year students of MCA can also apply. Along with this, fourth year students doing dual degree course and DOEACC ‘B’ level students can also be a part of this process. It is mandatory for the applicant to have at least 60 percent marks in all the previous academic courses.
Duration of internship and attractive stipend
This Winter Internship Program will be of total duration of 2 months, starting from 1st December 2026 and will be conducted till 31st January 2027. As per the rules of the scheme, the selected interns will be given a financial stipend ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 every month. If this period is extended due to the need of a particular project, this amount of stipend can increase to a total of ₹30,000. Upon completion of the internship, an official experience certificate will also be distributed by the government.

Online Registration Process and Important Dates
The online application process for this internship will be started on the official portal from 2nd November 2026. Eligible and interested students can fill their registration form by visiting the official portal of NIC dii.nic.in. While applying, students will also have to upload recommendation letters, academic mark sheets and a ‘Statement of Purpose’ (SOP) of 100 to 250 words on the letter head of their college or institute. Before applying, all the candidates are advised to read the official notification issued on the website carefully so that there is no error.
