P. 62 percent voting in 11 states amid violence in Bengal

New Delhi: In the third phase of voting in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, more than 63 percent voting took place in 93 seats of 11 states including Gujarat. Partial clashes were reported in West Bengal today while the Samajwadi Party raised complaints of alleged irregularities at some places in Uttar Pradesh. Amidst the scorching heat in many states of the country, it has been seen that for the third consecutive phase, there was less voting compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha. With today's voting, the fate of 10 ministers including four former Chief Ministers has been sealed in EVMs. However, voting was boycotted in some villages of Uttar Pradesh.

In the third phase of Lok Sabha elections, the highest turnout among 11 states was 77.06 percent in Assam, 75.13 percent in Goa and 73.96 percent in West Bengal. On the other hand, the lowest turnout was recorded in Uttar Pradesh at 57.34 per cent, Gujarat at 58.06 per cent and Bihar at 58.16 per cent, the Election Commission said.

Interestingly, when the third phase of voting was going on across the country, a heated debate has started between BJP and the opposition on the issue of Muslim reservation. Lalu Prasad Yadav was on the defensive after supporting reservation for Muslims, while BJP attacked Lalu Prasad Yadav.

According to the Election Commission, the fixed percentage of voting may change as the voters standing in the queue at the polling station were given the opportunity to cast their vote after the official polling time ended at 6 pm. With this, a total of 17.24 crore people including 8.39 crore women could vote in the third phase of voting in the country. 1.85 lakh polling stations were set up in 11 states and 18.5 lakh employees were deployed at these polling stations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah voted in the morning phase in Ahmedabad. PM Modi voted in Ranip area of ​​Ahmedabad in Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency while Amit Shah voted in Ahmedabad. Lok Sabha elections have concluded in Gujarat and Odisha with the third phase of voting. In this phase, the fate of 1332 candidates including Union Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, 10 ministers including Jyotiraditya Scindia and four former Chief Ministers has been sealed in EVMs.

Lok Sabha elections are to be held in seven phases in Uttar Pradesh, in the third phase voting was held on 10 seats, in which 58.59 percent votes were cast in Mainpuri, the stronghold of Samajwadi Party. His competition is with Jaiveer Singh. Apart from this, a total of 62.81 percent voting took place in Muslim dominated Sambhal seat. In this phase, no other seat in Uttar Pradesh has seen more than 60 percent voting. However, in some villages of Badayu in Uttar Pradesh, the government did not fulfill its promises and there was a complete boycott of voting. These villages include Dhoranpur, Firozabad, Nagla Jawahar, Neem Kheria and Nagla Umar.

Like Uttar Pradesh, voting is to be held in Bengal in seven phases, while in the third phase, voting took place on four seats, in which Murshidabad seat saw the highest turnout of 76.49 percent. In Bengal, the Election Commission received 182 complaints of voting irregularities. Meanwhile, in Karnataka, Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Bhagwant Khuba and Karnataka Minister Priyanka Kharge voted early in the morning. Two government officials died of heart attack while on election duty in Karnataka.
