Oyarzabal ruled out of Spain squad due to serious ankle injury | News India

Madrid, September 7 (HS). Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente will be without Real Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal for Sunday's UEFA Nations League match against Switzerland after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed he injured his left ankle during Thursday's 0-0 draw against Serbia.

Oyarzabal came on as a last minute substitute and suffered an injury in the closing stages of the game.

Following tests back in Spain on Friday morning, the seriousness of the injury was confirmed and Oyarzabal left RFEF headquarters on crutches and returned to San Sebastian.

Oyarzabal is also dealing with a number of other injured players. The club lost defenders Haimar Zubeldia and Hamari Traore in a recent 0-0 draw at Getafe, with Traore suffering a knee injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season. Midfielder Brais Mendez was injured in the same game, while winger Ander Barrenetxea has struggled with his fitness throughout the season, and the club has also been weakened by the sales of Mikel Merino and Robin Le Normand to Arsenal and Atletico Madrid respectively in the summer.
