Shambhu border farmers protest: Today the Supreme Court has given a big statement in the Shambhu Border case. During the hearing today in the farmers’ movement case, the Supreme Court said that our doors are always open for the farmers. During the hearing in the Supreme Court regarding the farmers’ protest going on at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana, the farmers have refused to talk to the committee formed by the court.
On Wednesday, this case was heard in the bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan. The court had earlier asked the high-powered committee to convince the farmers to temporarily shift or suspend the protest.
During the hearing, Justice Surya Kant asked what happened after our order? In response, Punjab AG Gurminder Singh said, after your order, a detailed discussion was held with Dallewal (farmer leader sitting on fast unto death), but he is refusing medical examination. All his body parts are fine. Justice Kant said that there may be differences with the government, but to agitate one has to be healthy. As an elected government and a constitutional institution you would not want to blame that something has happened to them.
Farmers refused to talk to the committee
The Supreme Court said in the order that Dallewal has been on fast for more than 20 days. He has been counseled and efforts are underway to ensure that he receives the necessary, immediate medical attention. During the talks, the farmers have refused to talk to the committee formed by this court.
He said that the Advocate General of Punjab has suggested that farmers should be allowed to present their demands directly in the court. We make it clear that the doors of the court are always open for any suggestion/demand by the farmers directly or through their authorized representative.
Hearing on farmer movement again on Thursday
The court said that as far as Dallewal’s health is concerned, the State should ensure that he is provided immediate medical attention as per the doctor’s advice. Justice Kant said, look at its serious consequences. The entire state machinery will be blamed. Farmers should not come under peer pressure. The Supreme Court will hear the matter again on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
