New Delhi, August 12 (HS). A bench headed by Justice AS Oka of the Supreme Court has reserved the decision on the bail plea of former Tamil Nadu minister Senthil Balaji, arrested in the cash for job case.
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the ED, said that the former minister himself is the reason for the delay in the trial. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Balaji, said that Balaji has been in custody for more than a year. There is no possibility of the trial being completed in the near future. He said that it is being alleged that the accused is influential but the accused is not holding any post. He has recently undergone surgery.
Balaji was arrested on June 14, 2023. A chargesheet was filed against Balaji on August 12, 2023. Alleged irregularities occurred in the appointment of bus conductors as well as drivers and junior engineers in the Tamil Nadu State Transport Department. All these appointments were made during Balaji's tenure as Transport Minister in the government between 2011 and 2015.
