Old Pension: Some teachers from marginal areas, who have been struggling for years for old pension, have finally got relief. The government has agreed to give old pension benefits to 110 primary teachers. The list of names of the said teachers has also been released by the government.
There is happiness among the teachers and various organizations who are agitating for getting the benefits of old pension. A release for primary teacher recruitment was issued from the government level on 21 September 2005. In which 110 teachers of the district were selected.
A selected teacher told that due to departmental delay, the appointment date of all the teachers was October 7, but in the meantime, due to NPS being implemented on October 1, they were also deprived of the old pension scheme.
He placed this matter before the senior officials of the department, but did not get any relief. About eight-ten years ago the teachers took refuge in the court. He told that first the court decision came in the interest of teachers in single and double bench.
Later the government approached the Supreme Court challenging this decision. At present the case is still pending. Told that in December 2023, on the initiative of the Central Government, option letters were sent to all the above mentioned teachers.
In which they were asked to choose the option of joining the new and old pension. Now on September 26, the government level has given approval to give the benefits of the old pension scheme to the said teachers.
Pithoragarh. Employees in the district will celebrate the implementation of NPS as Black Day today. Employees across the district will work at their respective workplaces wearing black bands on their arms and burn copies of the NPS.
These are the benefits of Old Pension Scheme (OPS)
– After retirement, employees will get 50% of their last salary as monthly pension.
– Pension amount will continue to increase with increase in DA rates
– On retirement, employees will get a maximum gratuity of Rs 20 lakh.
– If a retired employee dies, his family also gets pension facility.
Some more employees may also get relief soon
Some more employees of various departments who are struggling for the old pension scheme may also get relief from the government level soon. Like the teachers covered under the old pension scheme, the cases of employees not working in various departments are pending at the government level.
The government has definitely provided relief to some teachers by including them in the old pension. Congratulations to those teachers. The movement will continue until all employees are given the benefits of the old pension scheme.
