Rekha-Mukesh's meeting lasted for a month
Rekha was married to Delhi based businessman Mukesh Agarwal. Both of them met at a party and Mukesh fell in love with Rekha. Within a month of the trip, both of them got married in a temple. Senior journalist and writer Yasir Usman has said in Rekha's biopic 'Rekha the Untold Story' that getting Rekha and Mukesh Agarwal married at midnight proved costly for the priest.
According to the book, it was on 4 March 1990 when Mukesh suddenly arrived at Rekha's house with actress and their common friend Surinder Kaur and proposed to her. After thinking for a while, Rekha also agreed to marry him.

As soon as Rekha agrees, Mukesh jumps with joy and says let's get married right away. Although their families were not in Mumbai at that time, they decide to get married on the same day.
It was evening and Rekha was ready as a bride in a red and golden Kanjivaram saree and jewellery. The book further states that after this Rekha and Mukesh set out to search for a temple in Juhu for the wedding. They reached the ISKCON temple but found a huge crowd there, after which both decided to get married at the Mukteshwar Devalaya temple.
Breaking the rules of the temple, the priest got Rekha and Mukesh married
However, by then it was 10 pm and the temple priest Sanjay had also fallen asleep. But Mukesh woke up the priest and said that he wanted to get married now. When he saw Rekha in front of him, the priest was also surprised and then the priest broke a rule of the temple and got Rekha and Mukesh Agarwal married.
The priest had to pay the price for breaking the temple rules
The rule of the temple was that when the doors of the temple are closed, they are not opened after the Aarti, but the priest broke this rule and got Rekha and Mukesh married at midnight. Later when this matter came to light, the priest Sanjay Bodas was expelled from the temple.
