Mumbai: A 19-year-old bike rider was on the verge of death after being hit by the speeding car of NCP MLA Dilip Mohite Patil's nephew. While another was injured. The police have arrested the accused Mayur Mohite. Medical examination is going on to find out whether Mayur was drunk at the time of the accident or not. The accused's blood sample has been sent for testing.
NCP MLA from Khed in Pune, Dilip Mohit Patil, termed the incident unfortunate and said that he would not support any wrongdoing.
The accident took place at around 9.30 pm on Saturday night in Mauje Eklahare village of Ambegaon taluka. Om Bhalerao died in this accident.
A senior police officer said, 'The accused Mayur Mohit was driving a Fortuner car at a high speed on the wrong side of the Pune-Nashik highway towards Manchar. Then his car collided with the bike and the bike rider was seriously injured and lost his life. Both the vehicles were badly damaged in the incident.
The Manchar police registered a case against the car driver under section 304-A and the Motor Vehicles Act and arrested him.
The police have found that the accused was not drunk at the time of the accident. The police have taken his blood samples. Their report is awaited. After the report comes, it will be known for sure whether this is a case of drunk and drive or not.
On May 19, Kalyani Nagavya, a 17-year-old youth from Pune, killed two IT professionals when he rammed his bike into a Porsche car while under the influence of alcohol.
In this case, Tarun, his mother, father, grandfather, two doctors, hospital staff and others were arrested.
The blood sample of the accused Tarun was transferred to the hospital. Moreover, his driver was kidnapped and locked in a room to make him confess that he had caused the accident.
The shocking case is still under investigation.
