Once upon a time, it used to take two hours for the police to search the house of the Chief Minister of this state

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Residence: This is from 1999. When Kalyan Singh was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. But he was upset with the party leadership, especially Prime Minister Vajpayee. Importantly, both these leaders were active in politics together and became prominent faces during the days of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Jan Sangh. It was called the party of Brahmins and Vaanis. He was the Brahmin face of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in BJP. When Kalyan Singh became the face of OBC, the popular Jugalbandi between Vajpayee and Kalyan Singh started being discussed.

If you have the strength then show it by winning from any seat in Uttar Pradesh…

Kalyan Singh was the top leader of Uttar Pradesh while Vajpayee was the top leader at the national level. But when differences arose between the pair, Kalan Singh challenged Vajpayee to show his strength by winning from any seat in Uttar Pradesh. At that time Kalyan Singh was called Hindu Hriday Samrat. Then the ego battle started between the two leaders.

When Vajpayee became Prime Minister, it was decided to remove Kalyan Singh.

The result of this fight was that Uttar Pradesh BJP got divided into two parts. 13 months ago in 1998, Vajpayee had won from Lucknow seat by 4 lakh 31 thousand votes, his victory was by 70 thousand votes. In 1998, BJP won 58 seats in UP, but in 1999 its number reduced to half i.e. 29. It is said that Kalyan Singh had tried to stop Atal Bihari Vajpayee from becoming Prime Minister. On the other hand, his two ministers Kalraj Mishra and Lalji Tandon opened a front of protest against Kalyan Singh, when Vajpayee became the Prime Minister, he decided to remove Kalyan Singh. Kalyan Singh played the backward class card in such a way that his nearest rivals Lalji Tandon and Kalraj Mishra were defeated.

Ramprakash Gupta lived in an ordinary house

Then Vajpayee wanted to make Rajnath Singh the Chief Minister. But there was a need for a Chief Minister from a backward class. At that time, BJP's Maudy Mandal was looking for a leader from a backward class. Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Kushabhau Thackeray, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi were present in the meeting held then. Then his eyes fell on 76 year old Ramprakash Gupta. After finalizing his name, Lucknow Police had to send a message to his house that he had to go to Delhi. But Ramprakash Gupta lived in an ordinary house. It took two hours in the night for Lucknow Police to find his house. Ram Prakash Gupta was sworn in as the 19th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on 12 November 1999. He remained in power till 28 October 2000. Then Rajnath Singh was appointed in his place.
