Chitragupta Puja 2025: The five-day glittering festival of Diwali ends with Bhai Dooj. We all know about this lovely festival of brothers and sisters, but do you know that there is another very special and important puja on this day? This is the worship of Lord Chitragupta, the assistant of Yamraj, who keeps track of our deeds.

Especially for the Kayastha community, this is the biggest day of their family deity, which they celebrate with great devotion and pomp.

Who is Lord Chitragupta and why is his worship so important?

According to beliefs, Lord Chitragupta writes the book of our lives. Whatever good or bad work we do, they record the complete account of it with their pen and inkpot. For this reason, pen and paper have special importance in their worship. In a way, this is a day to show respect for one’s intelligence, knowledge and wisdom.

How to do puja? (a simple method)

  1. Wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes.
  2. Clean the place of worship and install the picture or idol of Lord Chitragupta.
  3. Light a ghee lamp in front of them and offer them flowers, fruits, sweets and Panchamrit.
