On the occasion of Police Memorial Day, Superintendent of Police Gopal Krishna Choudhary paid humble tribute to the brave policemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty at the Martyr Memorial site located on Police Lines by offering a floral wreath. Additional Superintendent of Police, all the Deputy Superintendents of Police and other police officers and employees were present with him on this occasion. During this, he inquired about the well being of the family members of the martyred policemen and gave a gift.
Describing the Memorial Day, Superintendent of Police Gopal Krishna Chaudhary said that it was October 21, 1959, when three officers of the patrolling party of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed by Chinese soldiers on the Indo-Tibetan border near Hot Spring in Ladakh. Took into his custody. The next day, when CRPF teams went in search of them, the Chinese soldiers who were already ambushed opened fire on them. CRPF soldiers also gave a befitting reply to that attack but 10 CRPF soldiers were sacrificed in that sudden attack. Seven other soldiers were injured. Since that day, every year 21st October is celebrated as Police Memorial Day all over India in the memory of those 10 brave CRPF soldiers.
It is noteworthy that since the decision taken in the annual meeting of Inspectors General of Police of all the States and Union Territories of India in January 1960, every year, the sacrifices of the brave policemen who lost their lives in the line of duty and were martyred in Ladakh have been remembered. National Police Day is celebrated every year on 21 October (Police Memorial Day) in his honour.
