Madrid, July 17 (HS). French superstar Kylian Mbappe was officially announced as a Real Madrid player on Tuesday, after which he told 80,000 fans that his dream has come true.
The striker, who completed his medical on Tuesday morning, signed a five-year contract and was handed the No.9 shirt by club president Florentino Perez.
“For years I have dreamed of playing for Real Madrid and today my dream has come true. I am very happy. I am going to give my life for this club,” Mbappe, the 25-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain player, said in Spanish to a packed Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
With former French legend Zinedine Zidane in attendance at the stadium, Mbappe became emotional as the crowd chanted his name, and he kissed the jersey of the reigning Spanish and European champions.
“Mbappe is an exceptional player who comes to help us keep winning, a player who today is fulfilling the dream of his life. Welcome home,” Perez said.
Although his new team-mates resumed training on Monday, the forward, who captained France during their unsuccessful Euro campaign, will have a few more days off before beginning his season in the Spanish capital.
Mbappe may have to wait until next week to make his debut, when Real Madrid face Real Valladolid, recently promoted from the second division.
