The southwest monsoon reached Maharashtra on Thursday, bringing relief to some areas facing water shortage and severe heat. Meteorological Department scientist Sunil Kamble said that the monsoon has already reached Sindhudurg district of South Konkan and Sangli and Kolhapur in West Maharashtra. The monsoon may reach Mumbai on June 9 or 10. Many areas of Maharashtra are currently facing water shortage as well as severe heat. According to available data, the government also supplied water through tankers to 11,565 villages and towns in 34 districts on Thursday. According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon has reached Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, coastal areas of Andhra and most parts of the Bay of Bengal.

After Kerala, the southwest monsoon is moving northeast on a set path. By June 8, the monsoon will reach almost all the states of South and Northeast India. After this it will move towards West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan. Monsoon will reach Madhya Pradesh by June 15. Another wave of southwesterly winds will come by June 20. Monsoon may arrive in entire Maharashtra by June 10, Chhattisgarh by June 15, Bihar and Jharkhand from June 15 to June 18, Uttar Pradesh by June 20. Finally, the monsoon is expected to reach Rajasthan by June 30. There are indications that the monsoon will reach Delhi by the end of June. Monsoon usually arrives in Delhi by June 27.

The heat wave is subsiding

At present, temperatures up to 46 degrees have been recorded in some cities. The temperature in Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh is 45 to 46 degrees Celsius. Temperatures between 45 and 46 degrees Celsius have been recorded at two places in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. The temperature in Dalteganj in Jharkhand was recorded at 46 degrees. As the monsoon is progressing in the country, the severity of the heat wave is decreasing. There is a possibility of thunderstorms in Jharkhand and Bihar in the next three to four days.
