Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today invited National Conference leader Omar Abdullah to take oath as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on October 16.
A day after the Central Government lifted President's rule, the Lieutenant Governor has invited Omar Abdullah to take oath. The President's rule imposed in Jammu and Kashmir for six years has been removed.
In a letter written to Omar Abdullah, Sinha has said that in the letter received from Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, it has been said that the MLAs have unanimously elected you as their leader.
He further said that he was met by Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hameed, Mohammad Akram, Satish Sharma, Independent MLA Pyarelal Sharma, AAP national secretary Pankaj Kumar Gupta, CPI (M) secretary GN Malik,
Sinha further said in this letter that I am happy to invite you to form and lead the government of Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah and his cabinet ministers have been given time at 11.30 am on October 16 to take oath.
After receiving this letter, Omar Abdullah also shared the information about the swearing-in letter given to X by the Lieutenant Governor.
It is noteworthy that the last assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held 10 years ago in 2014. After the elections, BJP and PDP formed an alliance and formed the government. In 2018, BJP withdrew support and the government fell and Mehbooba Mufti resigned from the post of CM. Since then, President's rule is in force in Jammu and Kashmir, which was removed yesterday.
