Om Birla elected Lok Sabha Speaker for the second consecutive time, PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi congratulated

The election of the Lok Sabha Speaker has taken place on the third day of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha. BJP MP and National Democratic Alliance candidate Om Birla has been elected the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha. Let us tell you that the India Alliance had fielded Congress MP K Suresh against NDA's Om Birla. This is a historic moment, as this is the first time that the same person from the BJP has been elected Speaker for the second consecutive time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the name of Om Birla. Many big leaders including Union Ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh supported this proposal. After this, Protem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab took the proceedings of the House forward and placed the proposal before everyone. On the basis of voice vote, he invited Om Birla to take over as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

PM Modi said that you have taken over the post of Speaker for the second time in the 18th Lok Sabha, we are seeing a new record being created in ourselves. Shri Balram Jakharji was the first Speaker who got the opportunity to become Speaker again after completing a term of 5 years. After him, it is you who have got the opportunity to hold this post again after completing 5 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Speaker ji, it is the good fortune of the House that you are occupying this seat for the second time. I congratulate you and the entire House. Om Birla's working style will inspire young MPs. We are confident that you will guide us for the next five years and help us run the session smoothly.

Om Birla was one of the most active MPs and was also known for taking tough decisions as the Speaker. Om Birla, a three-time MP from Kota, Rajasthan, has also been an MLA three times in Rajasthan. In his first term as an MP, he participated in 671 questions and 163 debates with 86 percent attendance. After becoming an MP for the second time in 2019, he was made the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

The new Parliament building was constructed during Birla's tenure. Many historic laws were also passed including three criminal laws, removal of Article 370, Citizenship Amendment Act. He took some tough decisions regarding the suspension of 100 Lok Sabha MPs and the security of Parliament.
