Today is the third day of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha. In the proceedings of the last two days, the elected MPs took oath as members of the House. Along with this, the candidates for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker were announced. Om Birla from NDA and Congress MP K Suresh from India Alliance were fielded.
The state of emergency was strongly condemned
After being elected Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla strongly condemned the Emergency imposed in 1975 and attacked the Congress. Along with this, two minutes of silence was observed in the House. Meanwhile, the opposition created a ruckus. Om Birla said that this House strongly condemns the decision to impose Emergency in 1975. Along with this, we appreciate the resolve of all those people who opposed the Emergency, struggled and took the responsibility of protecting India's democracy.
He said that 25 June 1975 will always be known as a black chapter in the history of India. On this day, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed emergency in the country and attacked the Constitution made by Baba Saheb Ambedkar. India is known as the mother of democracy all over the world. Democratic values and debate have always been maintained in India. Democratic values have always been protected, they have always been encouraged. Dictatorship was imposed on India by Indira Gandhi. India's democratic values were crushed and freedom of expression was strangled.
Om Birla was elected speaker
Today the Speaker's election was held and Birla was elected Speaker. This was a historic moment as this would be the first time when the same person from the BJP would be elected Speaker for the second consecutive time. After being elected Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla said, 'This 18th Lok Sabha is the biggest celebration of democracy in the world. Despite other challenges, more than 64 crore voters participated in the elections with great enthusiasm. I express my gratitude to them on behalf of the House and the people of the country. I thank the Election Commission for conducting the election process in a fair and transparent manner and making every vote possible even in remote areas.
Akhilesh Yadav congratulated Om Birla on becoming the Speaker of the Lok Sabha
The NDA government has been formed for the third consecutive time under the leadership of PM Modi. The expectations, hopes and aspirations of the people have increased in the last decade. Therefore, it is our responsibility to make collective efforts to effectively fulfill their hopes and aspirations. Samajwadi Party chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav congratulated Om Birla on becoming the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. He said that many great traditions are associated with this post and we believe that the House will move forward without discrimination. As the Speaker, you will give equal opportunity to every MP and party. We expect that the voice of any public representative should not be suppressed and the dignity of the House should not be hurt by actions like expulsion.
