Olympic medallist Swapnil Kusale felicitated with much fanfare in Pune

Pune: Olympic bronze medalist shooter Swapnil Kusale was given a grand welcome on his arrival in Pune today. Swapnil has given Maharashtra the pride of winning an Olympic medal after a gap of 72 years.

Swapnil won the bronze medal in the 50m rifle shooting event at the Paris Olympics last week. 72 years ago, Maharashtra wrestler Khasba Jadhav had won the bronze medal.

When Kolhapur resident Swapnil arrived at Pune International Airport this morning, many fans welcomed him by playing drums and garlanding him. Swapnil, who has immense faith in Pune's famous Dagdu Seth Halwai Ganpati, visited the Dagdu Seth temple and took darshan. Swapnil has also got a tattoo of Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati on his body.

The Maharashtra government has announced a reward of Rs 1 crore to Swapnil. Swapnil, who was working as a TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner) in the Pune division of Central Railways till now, has been promoted as Special Duty Officer.

Kusale has previously won gold medals at the 2023 Asian Games held in China, the 2022 World Cup held in Baku and the 2021 Games held in New Delhi.
