Oli, the chairman of the United Marxist-Leninist, Nepal Communist Party, will again become the Prime Minister amid political turmoil in Nepal. Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda resigned from the post of PM after losing the trust vote in Parliament on Friday.
Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel may appoint KP Sharma Oli as the new Prime Minister of the Nepali Congress-CPN alliance by Sunday evening. The President will administer the oath to the new PM and other cabinet members on Monday morning. A small cabinet is likely to be announced on Monday before the swearing-in ceremony begins. Late Friday night, Oli claimed to be the next Prime Minister with the support of the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led party Nepali Congress. Signatures of 165 members of the House of Representatives were submitted to form the government under Article 76-2 of the Constitution. These MPs include 77 MPs of Oli's party and 88 MPs of the Nepali Congress.
There will be a small cabinet in the initial phase
According to the information, out of the total 21 ministers in the new government of Nepal, Nepali Congress will get nine ministries and CPN-UML will get eight ministries. Along with this, the post of Prime Minister will also be given. Major posts like Home, Foreign Affairs, Finance and Energy will be shared between NC and UML. Nepali Congress is likely to get the Home Ministry. Apart from this, the Finance Ministry can meet UAL.
Earlier on Saturday evening, the CPN-UML held a high-level meeting to discuss the future strategy and finalise the names of the ministers to be included in the new cabinet. However, according to a senior party leader and member of the standing committee, there will be a small cabinet initially, which will be expanded later.
