Ola and Uber, companies providing online cab booking services, have given their stand on complaints related to consumer rights. Both the companies say that their pricing structure is the same on every mobile operating system (Android and iOS) and they do not differentiate the fares based on any platform.
CCPA issued notice
Cab service providers Ola and Uber were issued notices by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) regarding pricing.
- There were complaints that Ola and Uber apps show different fares at the same destination for iPhone and Android users.
- Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi termed it prima facie unfair trade practice and violation of consumer rights.
- He had directed the CCPA to thoroughly investigate these allegations.
Ola’s statement
Ola spokesperson said:
“We follow the same pricing structure for all customers and do not discriminate based on mobile operating system.”
The company also said it is committed to working with the CCPA to resolve any misunderstandings.
Uber’s answer
Uber also responded to the CCPA notice, saying:
“We do not set fares based on the brand or operating system of riders’ phones.”
The company further said that it is fully prepared to work with CCPA to resolve complaints and misunderstandings.
