Officers and employees should maintain fairness and transparency in counting of votes: District Election Officer

Khunti, 16 November (Hindustan Reporter). In view of the assembly elections, an important review meeting was organized by District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Lokesh Mishra in the office room of the District Election Officer on Saturday regarding the preparations for the counting of votes to be held on 23 November.

In the meeting, the District Election Officer gave necessary directions to all the concerned officers to conduct the vote counting process in a fair, transparent and smooth manner.

He gave many instructions including strengthening the security arrangements at the counting centres, training all the employees on the counting process. All officers and employees involved in the counting process were directed to conduct special training sessions to educate them about their duties.

He directed all the officers to start the counting on time while ensuring compliance with all the guidelines of the Election Commission during the counting process. Instructions were also given to pay special attention to the availability and quality of stationery materials used for counting of votes.

Regarding counting, the District Election Officer said that the counting of votes cast through postal ballot will start from 8 am on November 23 at the counting center set up in Birsa College and the counting of votes cast through EVMs will begin from 8.30 am. For counting of votes cast through EVMs, 20 tables each will be set up for Khunti assembly constituency and Torpa assembly constituency.

He said that 11 tables each will be set up for Khunti and Torpa assembly constituencies for counting the votes cast through postal ballot. All the deputed officers and personnel were instructed to be present on time. It was told that no mobile or electronic device of any kind will be allowed in the counting room. Political parties have been asked to provide the list of their counting agents to the District Election Office by 20th November.
