SC dismissed the petition to cancel the exam
In a major setback to unsuccessful candidates of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024, the Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed petitions seeking cancellation and re-conduct of the exam. The court held that there was no material on record to show that the credibility of the exam was systematically affected and other malpractices were committed. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the alleged irregularities in NEET-UG 2024 and has registered 6 FIRs.
Why is the NEET-UG exam conducted?
NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions. This year, the NTA conducted the NEET UG exam on May 5 in which 24 lakh students appeared and the result was declared on June 4. This time 13.16 lakh students qualified, out of which 67 candidates scored 720 out of 720 marks.
Who topped the exam?
Let us tell you that according to the NEET-UG result declared on June 4, Ved Sunilkumar Shende of Maharashtra topped the exam. Syed Arifin Yusuf of Tamil Nadu got second place and Mridul Manya Anand got third place. However, now that the final result has been declared, the list of NEET-UG toppers has changed.
