NTPC has invested Rs 50 thousand crore in electricity and mining in Jharkhand: Animesh Jain

Ranchi, 3 April (HS). Animesh Jain, CEO of NTPC Coal Mining Headquarters, said that NTPC has invested more than Rs 50 thousand crore in the field of power and coal mining in the state. He informed that NTPC Coal Mining is now known as NTPC Mining Limited, which is a company owned by NTPC. Animesh Jain was talking to journalists at NTPC headquarters.

NML has produced a record 34.39 million metric tons (MMT) of coal from the coal mines of Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh in the financial year 2023-24. In this, 34.15 million metric tonnes have been dispatched. It has been supplied to various power plants of NTPC. He said that Pakri Barwadih coal mine located in Jharkhand has produced 16.31 million metric tons, Chatti Bariatu coal mine has produced 3.30 million metric tons and Keredari coal mine has produced 0.24 million metric tons.

He informed that NTPC Coal Mining achieved the highest single day coal production and dispatch of 1.8 LMT and 1.29 LMT respectively. Coal production has started from Kerendari Coal Mining Project, which is the fifth captive mine of NTPC. All the five operational coal mines of NTPC have achieved and exceeded their targets and are gearing up to set new benchmarks in the future. He informed that Dulanga Coal Mining Project has achieved five star rating from the Ministry of Coal, Government of India and is among the top three mines in the country for the last three years.

NTPC Mining Limited (NML), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, has received revised allocation agreements for six coal mines previously allotted to NTPC by the Ministry of Coal. NML has also won the North Dhadu (East) coal block in the state of Jharkhand under the coal block auction conducted by the Ministry of Coal. Additionally, NML has received a credit rating of AAA from CRISIL and CARE. He informed that till date, NTPC has produced approximately 103 coal mines from its five operational captive coal mines (viz. Pakri Barwadih and Chatt-Bariatu and Kerendari coal mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga Coal Mine in Odisha and Talaipalli Coal Mine in Chhattisgarh) since the start of production. Million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal has been produced.

He informed that NML is fueling 13 per cent of NTPC thermal generation, thereby contributing to energy self-sufficiency and envisages reaching a capacity of 100 million tonnes per annum. NML's remarkable growth in coal production and dispatch is a testament to its dedication to operational excellence and its contribution in meeting India's energy demands. The company will continue to implement innovative technologies and safety practices to further enhance its performance and support the country's energy goals.
