New Delhi, July 10 (HS). Five major infrastructure projects were evaluated in the 74th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) held here under PM Gatishakti. In this meeting, the NPG evaluated road, rail and urban transport projects.
The 74th meeting of the Network Planning Group under PM Gatishakti was held in New Delhi on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Rajiv Singh Thakur, Additional Secretary, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement on Wednesday. The meeting focused on the evaluation of five important infrastructure projects of the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. These projects have been evaluated for their alignment with the principles of integrated planning outlined in the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan.
According to the ministry, the first project is the Balaram-Tentuloi New Railway Line (MCRL Phase II) in Odisha. This greenfield project involves the construction of a 49.58 km rail line in Angul district at an estimated cost of Rs 1,404 crore to provide critical first-mile rail connectivity to 11 coal blocks. The second is the Budhapank-Luburi New Railway Line (MCRL Outer Corridor) in Odisha. This 106 km long greenfield rail line, with an estimated project cost of Rs 3,478 crore, will aid in efficient coal evacuation from the Mahanadi river basin.
The third major project is the Lucknow Metro Rail Project Phase IB East-West Corridor (Charbagh to Vasant Kunj) in Uttar Pradesh. The project is expected to cost Rs 5,801 crore and aims to reduce congestion, vehicular pollution and enhance access to public transport through an integrated network. This is followed by the project of upgradation of existing 6-lane road including elevated corridor of NH-47 (Narol Junction to Sarkhej Junction) in Gujarat. The estimated cost of this brownfield project is Rs 1,295 crore.
Apart from this, the section of NH-166 from Chokak to Sangli (Ankali) in Maharashtra is to be 4-laned. The project involves four-laning of 33.6 km long section of NH-166, with an estimated cost of Rs 864 crore. The Network Planning Group has evaluated all the projects in the perspective of the principles of PM Gatishakti. These projects are expected to play an important role in nation building, integrating various modes of transport and providing substantial socio-economic benefits and ease of living, thereby contributing to the overall development of the regions.
