Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Two high-profile seats of Uttar Pradesh, Amethi and Rae Bareli, are going to vote in the fifth phase (Lok Sabha elections 2024) on May 20. Even though Priyanka Gandhi is not a candidate, the senior Congress leader is at the forefront of the party's campaign. His brother Rahul Gandhi is the candidate from Rae Bareli, while Kishori Lal Sharma, close to the Gandhi family, is contesting from Amethi on a Congress ticket. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is going to hold nine street meetings today with the beginning of a stormy public relations campaign. Priyanka Gandhi reached Rae Bareli on Monday. In the last two days he held marathon meetings with local Congress leaders at Bhumau guesthouse.
Priyanka Gandhi's resolution in Rae Bareli
It is being told that in a meeting on Monday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told the Congress workers that she will not leave Rae Bareli till May 18. Voting will be held in Rae Bareli and Amethi on May 20 in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections.
According to Congress workers, Priyanka said that we have to fight strongly from Amethi and Rae Bareli. Now your 24 hours are mine. I will scold you, chase you away but will stand firmly with you. The doors of my house are open for you 24 hours a day. This election is to protect the Constitution. BJP wants to snatch the benefit of reservation from you.
Rahul Gandhi vs Dinesh Pratap Singh in Rae Bareli
Since its first Lok Sabha election in 1952, the Congress has lost Rae Bareli only three times. After the Emergency, Congress lost this seat in the 1977 elections and in the 1996 and 1998 elections. Despite the BJP and Modi wave in the 2014 and 2019 elections, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi managed to win the Rae Bareli seat. This time due to health reasons he decided not to contest the Lok Sabha elections and has gone to Rajya Sabha. This time Congress has decided to field Rahul Gandhi from his traditional stronghold. Feroze Gandhi and Indira Gandhi have represented this seat once. In Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi is facing off against UP minister Dinesh Pratap Singh, who lost to Sonia Gandhi by over 1.67 lakh votes in the 2019 elections.
Big challenge for Congress in Amethi
Congress also faces a big challenge in Amethi. At one time this seat was also represented by Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. In the 2019 elections, BJP leader Smriti Irani gave a crushing defeat to Rahul Gandhi. Before this, Rahul Gandhi had won this seat thrice consecutively. This time too Smriti Irani is contesting elections from Amethi. Congress has declared KL Sharma as its candidate from here. However, even before declaring the candidate, the party is campaigning on a large scale here.
