ITR New Feature: There are only a few days left for the last date of ITR filing i.e. 31st July. People are rapidly filing their ITR before the last date. A big problem in filing ITR in a hurry is that you often make a mistake. In such a situation, before the financial year 2022-23, you had only one option to file revised ITR. But after that a special facility was started by the Income Tax Department, which is called Discard ITR.
What is discarded ITR?
If you have made any mistake in filing ITR, then you can cancel your ITR under Discard ITR. However, for this it is necessary that your ITR is not verified. If you verify your ITR, then only the option of Revised ITR will remain in front of you.
How to reject ITR, know the process
First of all you have to go to the ITR website and go to e-verify return in the e-file tab under income tax return. After this a webpage will open, where you will see unverified ITR. Here you will get two options. The first will be e-verify and the second will be discard. You have to click on discard, after which your ITR will be cancelled and you can file a new ITR again.
Some people do not see the discard option on the e-verify page. If you also do not see the discard option, then you can adopt another method. Under this, first you have to go to the e-file tab and click on View Filed Returns there. After this, you will see the option of e-verify, on which you have to click. After this you will be redirected to the e-verify page and there you will get the option of discard.
When should you not use Discard ITR?
If you have also filed ITR incorrectly and are thinking of rejecting it, then first of all it is necessary for you to be unverified. You can easily reject your ITR, but if the last date for filing ITR has passed, then do not reject ITR. In such a situation, the Income Tax Department will assume that you have filed a new ITR after the last date. Let us tell you that even after the ITR is verified, it is final that you have filed ITR. In such a situation, if you reject ITR after the last date, then you will be fined and you will have to file a belated ITR.
