Passport: Now there will be no need to travel long distances to get a passport made. The Central Government has taken a new initiative, under which there is a plan to increase the number of Passport Seva Kendras (Post Office Passport Seva Kendras – POPSK) through post offices from 442 to 600 in the next 5 years. Its main objective is to provide passport facility to the citizens at their nearest post office. Under this initiative, citizens can now apply for a passport from the Common Service Center (CSC) of their nearest post office. With this facility, lakhs of people will be able to get passport easily without any hassle. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Department of Posts and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), stating that this facility will be implemented across the country by 2028-29. After this, there is a possibility of huge increase in the number of customers every year, which may increase from 35 lakh to one crore.
How will the passport be made?
Till now one had to apply by visiting Passport Seva Kendras, but now this service is also available at the CSC counter of the post office. For this you will have to register on the official website of the post office. Application form has to be submitted. After that you will be given a date on which you will have to go to the post office for verification with your necessary documents.
Required Documents
To apply for a passport, you will need documents like birth certificate, high school marksheet, PAN card, voter ID, Aadhar card, driving license, ration card and a notarized affidavit. After verification of these documents, your fingerprint and retina scan will also be done. If everything is found correct, your passport will be issued.
