You must have often heard that running, exercising and playing sports are very important to reduce obesity. But do you know that you can burn calories even while watching sports on TV? Yes, this has been revealed in a new research
Scientists at Loughborough University in Britain have found that when we watch a sport on TV, our emotions keep changing. As soon as our team scores a goal or wins, we jump for joy, clap or shout. All these activities help us burn calories.
Researchers have also put this into a formula which they have named 'Power of Celebration'. In this formula, they have included things that play a role in burning calories, such as the weight of the spectator, the way of watching the game, the way of celebrating and the time.
How are calories burned?
When we watch a sport, hormones such as adrenaline and dopamine are released in our body. These hormones excite us and increase our heart rate. As a result, our muscles are activated and we burn calories. This research tells us that watching sports is not just entertainment, but it can also be beneficial for our health. However, it is important to note that we cannot completely replace exercise by watching TV. Regular exercise is very important for our health.
Which games have how much impact while watching TV?
Football: If you react by jumping or yelling, a 90-minute match burns 540 calories.
Archery: If you react by clapping during an hour-long match, 106 calories can be lost.
Athletics: If you jump and react at a fast speed, 162 calories can be burnt in an hour-long match.
Tennis: If you watch a match for three hours and react enthusiastically, 432 calories are burnt.
