wine shop: Those running liquor shops on rent will have to pay stamp duty at the fixed rate. For this, the Stamp Department is going to run a district-wise inspection campaign. Principal Secretary Stamp and Registration Leena Johri has issued a government order in this regard and sought cooperation from the Excise Department.
It has been said in the government order that the lease of liquor shops comes under the scope of lease on the basis of the provision given in the Stamp Act. Therefore, it is mandatory to make the lease on the basis of stamp liability at the prescribed rate as well as get it registered in the registration office.
Based on the provision given in the Stamp Act, the concerned officer before whom such lease is presented should ensure compliance of the stamp obligation so that the stamp duty imposed on the lease can be recovered. It has also been said that it has come to light that leases are not being made available to the officers of the Stamp and Registration Department for registration. Due to this, revenue is not being recovered.
It has also been said in the government order that arrangements should be made to ensure stamp liability and to make the said lease available for registration. For this, action will be taken at the level of the Excise Commissioner. It should be made mandatory to see the registered lease before giving the license to run a shop.
