Russia for visa-exempt Indians: If you are planning to travel to Russia, there is a good news for you. Russia may offer visa-free entry to Indians from 2025. Discussions are underway to implement visa-free tourist exchange between Russia and India. In this context, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has said that from June 2025, Indian passport holders will be able to travel visa-free. The move has been taken as India is seen as a priority market due to its strong ties with Russia. Russia’s motive behind this is that visa-free travel will increase tourism between the two countries and strengthen relations.

According to media reports, after the implementation of Russia’s new visa rules, Indians will be able to travel to Russia without a visa. Recently it was reported that Russia and India have discussed a bilateral agreement to reduce visa restrictions for each other. Notably, Indians are eligible for e-Visa to travel to Russia from August 2023. However, it takes approximately four days to issue an e-Visa. According to a report in The Indian Express, India also made it to the top five countries in terms of the number of e-Visas last year. Russia has issued 9,500 e-visas to Indian tourists.

In particular, Russia currently allows visa-free entry to tourists from China and Iran through its visa-free tourist exchange program. Now Russia is also considering visa free travel with India. Indians go to Russia for business or travel.
More than 60,000 Indians are expected to visit Moscow in 2023, an increase of 26 percent compared to 2022. India ranks third among non-CIS countries from where the most people travel to Russia. Nearly 1,700 e-Visas were announced in the first quarter of 2024 alone.
