Heat from electricity: Preparations are being made in full swing to generate electricity from the heat falling on the earth. A company based in California, USA is working on geothermal energy development. According to the initial report, 400 megawatt electricity will be generated from the heat falling on the earth, which is capable of meeting the electricity needs of about 4 lakh houses.
Southern California Edison will buy power from Houston-based geothermal company Farevo, Farevo announced on Tuesday. According to a CNBC report, the company has completed 125 wells located in the Southwest region.
The need for conventional electricity will decrease
As soon as this power facility is ready, the need for traditional power plants will be reduced. Traditional power plants are also considered a major cause of climate change. Wilson Ricks, an energy system researcher at Princeton University, said that this project can greatly help in reducing the cost of new generation of geothermal energy.
This can have a massive impact on global decarbonisation. Decarbonisation means replacing things that produce carbon dioxide and methane, which causes climate change on Earth.
At present there is a huge dependence on fossil fuels
The world currently relies heavily on fossil fuels for electricity. Sarah Jewett, vice president of strategy at Ferio, said clean energy is capable of meeting the growing demand for electricity.
New geothermal companies are adopting drilling techniques and methods borrowed from the oil and gas industry to create reservoirs from hot rocks. This could provide opportunities for geothermal energy prospects in many other locations. Engineers have been working to advance these methods for many years.
