New Delhi. Soon the common man will not have to travel in expensive trains due to non-availability of seats. Seats will be available only in low-fare trains. In this way, common people will have the option to travel expensively or cheaply according to their convenience. To provide relief to the common people, Indian Railways has prepared a plan to increase the production of non-AC coaches (general and sleeper) for the next two years. According to the Indian Railways, it has planned to manufacture about 10 thousand non-AC coaches in the next two years. The coaches to be introduced during the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26 are being finalized, including a record number of more than 5300 general coaches.
According to officials, in the financial year 2024-25, 2605 general coaches including Amrit Bharat General, 1470 non-AC sleeper coaches including Amrit Bharat Sleeper, 323 Amrit Bharat SLR coaches, apart from 32 high capacity parcel vans and 55 pantry cars will be produced.
Similarly, the Railways has planned to manufacture Amrit Bharat General 2710 general coaches, Amrit Bharat Sleeper Coach 1910 non AC sleeper, Amrit Bharat SLR Coach 514 SLR coaches, 200 high capacity parcel vans and 110 pantry cars in the financial year 2025-26. According to this, if we talk about the number of trains, about 400 trains will be produced every year. It is important to know here that Amrit Bharat has more facilities than normal trains and the fare is about 17 percent higher.
Currently two thirds of the coaches are non-AC
The most competition in trains is in non-AC class i.e. sleeper and general. However, two thirds of the coaches are non-AC. Apart from the existing premium trains, the total number of coaches in mail, express and passenger is 68534. In this, there are 44946 non-AC sleeper and general coaches, while the number of AC coaches is 23588. However, these figures do not include the number of coaches of suburban i.e. local trains.
More than 95 percent of people travel in non-AC
Of the total passengers travelling by train, 95.3% are from non-AC i.e. General and Sleeper classes, while only 4.7% passengers travel in AC class.
